It’s a rare wine that can stop me in my tracks and make me savor the last few drops for hours. The 1999 Ristow Cabernet Sauvignon, Quinta de Pedras Vineyard from Napa Valley was such perfection that I couldn’t have anything else the entire night! Wow! It was an insanely complex wine that could easily of been mistaken for an aged, quality Bordeaux. The gorgeous, intense bouquet of ripe black fruit including blackberry, plum, and black currant along with aromas of exotic spice, herbs, anise, and dust was stunning. The wine was incredibly mineral oriented but fruit forward on the palate with ripe black fruits, leather, earth, and a seamless integration of acid, alcohol and tannin. The finish lasted for over an hour! This wine is showing so well now but could easily last another 10 years. 1999 was an excellent vintage!
